The standards for retaining doctoral programs in particular will be, first, whether they contribute significantly, with high quality and high demand, to AU’s distinctive identity; and second, whether they are or will likely become a truly prestigious national program within five years. This standard will allow some programs to expand slightly, while others will consolidate or disappear.
