Welcome to the web site for Strengthening the Teaching of American History, a partnership between American University and the District of Columbia Public Schools.

Strengthening the Teaching of American History is a professional development program offered by the District of Columbia Public Schools in partnership with the American University Department of History and School of Education, geared to provide DCPS American history educators with strategies for improving students' understanding and appreciation of traditional American history.

This program will advance the knowledge and expertise of DCPS American history educators by actively involving teacher participants in the in-depth study of American history and providing them with the skills needed to translate that knowledge into motivating instructional strategies that engage students in the study of American history.

For more information on this project, contact Lynn Fox in the School of Education.
