3rd Annual IIHP Meeting 1998

October 11-14 - Washington, DC


THEME

A special emphasis will be put on the development of health policy in relation to health promotion. Building alliances and striving towards equity will be two key issues in the health policy discussion. The delegates will represent a variety of sectors (government, non-government, private, education) and disciplines. In addition, renowned speakers have been invited to address theses issues.

As a result of the input from IIHP partners, numerous cutting edge topics will be addressed:

  • training and education
  • health communications
  • health policy development
  • strategic planning
  • research / database development

1. To build partnerships with leaders from government, education, and the private sector in the health promotion field.

2. To present a paper on your specialty area in relation to health promotion.

3. To participate in outcome-oriented and practical working sessions in small groups in an informal and innovative atmosphere expanding on the traditional conference approach.

PROGRAM OUTLINE

We advise you to arrive in Washington by Sunday afternoon October 11 at the latest and stay until the end of the meeting on October 14 5:00 pm. Our time to discuss all the suggested topics is limited, so participants need to be present at all sessions. Our first scheduled function begins at 7:00 pm on the 11th. In addition, breakout sessions will be scheduled sporadically to focus on strategic planning and projected goals.


PRESENTATION OF PAPERS

Participants will be able to make brief pre-approved presentations about their institution or project in the appropriate session. Depending on the selection, these presentations will be made in geographical or topical order (e.g., under Europe or health policy). Please contact Wolf Kirsten.


REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Please fill out the response form and fax back. Specify who is coming and please send back to the National Center for Health Fitness as soon as possible. We are keeping an open deadline; however, hotels will fill up or increase prices, and the conference facilities on campus only allow a certain number of people. There will be no registration fees as American University will provide the necessary resources for a quality meeting.

The hotels are all very close to the metro transport system. Please contact your hotel of choice directly as soon as possible to reserve a guaranteed room because October is high season and the hotels will be full. When making your reservations, be sure to mention American University and the International Institute for Health Promotion (IIHP) in order to receive the special rate.


TRAVEL INFORMATION

Transportation will be provided to and from the campus of American University each day of the meeting. Delegates have to arrange their own transportation from and to the airport. Air travel also is the responsibility of the delegate unless a travel stipend has been provided.
