Intern Position: Internship in Science Programs and Communications

Location: Washington, DC

Organization: International Life Sciences Institute, North America

Mission: To develop leadership skills in young adults by offering them opportunities to work with science and communications professionals and to create material that clearly communicates science issues.

Stipend: $1,000

The intern will work with the senior manager of science programs and communications. The position is a 25 to 30-hour a week position. The intern will have the opportunity to develop materials designed for communicating science-based information on food safety and nutrition to health and nutrition professionals, and to food and beverage industry members. He/she will interact with multiple professionals (designer, editor, program managers and scientific authors) in the creation of publications such as scientific fact sheets, scientific summaries and meeting brochures. Responsibilities may also include tracking scientific manuscripts; developing materials on food and nutrition projects for website applications; attending internal and external committee meetings on topics such as dietary fats and carbohydrates; translating scientific information into understandable and useful information; recording scientific committee meeting minutes; and developing written materials that could be used as tools for dietitians and health professionals in communicating sound science messages. Educational opportunities exist to attend meetings, workshops, or symposia that may take place during the internship program, sponsored by government and non-government entities.
