Tomorrow's leaders in health promotion are being educated at American University today.

 

Position (s): Health Fitness Specialist

These positions are avaialble at the on-campus facilities and off-site corporate wellness contracts. Several positions are open each semester at one or more of the sites. Most of the positions are staffed by students in the Health Promotion and Health Fitness Management Programs at American University.

HEALTH FITNESS SPECIALIST
Grade 16, $9.75/hr
Assists participants at the front desk and on the exercise floor, ensures prompt service, administers health fitness assessments to ensure proper procedures are followed, designs physical conditioning programs and ensures compliance with current standards in the field, counsels participants on health issues and assessments, ensures appropriate actions are taken, participates in health education programming and marketing, leads exercise classes, and develops and implements a special project area, to ensure the needs of the community are met.

This position (is on-campus or) works at a government contracted site and is part of a NCHF sponsored Health promotion program which provides Health and Fitness services to government employees located at the site. Bachelor's Degree in Health Fitness or related field preferred. Current enrollment in a graduate program preferred. A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a health and fitness related position. Experience may be substituted for the educational requirements. Must have good communication and interpersonal skills. Current CPR certification. Experience using computers and teaching fitness classes preferred. SENIOR HEALTH FITNESS SPECIALIST

Participates in servicing all the activities associated with the NCHF's contracted Health Facility site(s) and assists the Project Coordinator in management and contract efforts, to ensure the smooth operation of the facility. Assist participants at the front desk and on the exercise floor, administer health fitness assessments, design physical conditioning programs, counsel participants on health and fitness results, participate in health education programming, lead exercise classes, develop and implement a project area.

Bachelor's Degree in Health Fitness or related field. Current enrollment in the MS Health Fitness Management Program. Experience in health and fitness either at USPS HQ (United States Postal Service Headquarters) Health Promotion or at another health fitness program. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Current CPR certification. Experience using computers and teaching fitness classes preferred.
