Paul Harrell

Paul Harrell is a pre-doctoral student in the BCAN program. Prior to coming to American University, he earned a B.S. in Psychology from University of Maryland, College Park and worked at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. His primary research at American University is on the influence of caffeine and nicotine on performance and affect in people, using experimental models. Expectancies are also examined as mediators and moderators of drug outcomes. In collaboration with NIDA, he is also working with Dr. Juliano to publish research examining relationships between cigarette smoking and cocaine/heroin treatment outcomes. His current research project examines individual differences in cognitive and affective responses to nicotine.
