Honors Requirement Worksheet

Current Honors students can review a list of the Honors courses they have completed and learn how many Honors credits they still need with the help of the online “Honors Requirement Worksheet.”


To view your Honors Worksheet, log on to the "my.american.edu" portal. Under “Academics” find the link, “Honors Requirement Worksheet.” Look for something like the graphic below.

The number of Honors credits you are required to complete and a summary of the Honors credits you have completed thus far will appear at the bottom of the worksheet.

Worksheets are updated manually by Honors staff. So, if you see incorrect information on your worksheet, please e-mail the corrections to honors@american.edu. Please note that Honors courses for the current semester may not appear on your worksheet until the next semester.

  • Undergraduate (300-400 level) Supplement Form (PDF)
    This form is for students looking to convert a 300-400 level non-Honors course into one for Honors credit by adding an extra Honors component to the existing class requirements.
  • Graduate Course (500-600 level) Supplement Form (PDF)
    This form is for students taking 500- or 600-level graduate courses. Students taking graduate courses who complete the graduate-level work can receive upper-level Honors credit for the classes by completing this form.
  • Honors Capstone Form (PDF)
    This form is necessary for all students completing an Honors Capstone.
  • Honors Independent Study Form (PDF)
    This form, in conjunction with the Registrar’s Independent Study Form (see below), allows students to receive Honors credit for an independent study bearing the Honors Independent Study number, HNRS-490.
  • Registrar's Independent Study Form (PDF)
    This form, in conjunction with the Honors Independent Study Form (see above), will allow students to receive Honors credit for an independent study using the Honors Independent Study number, HNRS-490.
  • Capstone Grant Application (PDF)
    For those working on the Honors Capstone, use this form to apply for University Honors Program Capstone Grants up to $500 in support of the research.
  • AU Abroad Supplement Form for Madrid/Mediterranean (PDF)
    Students studying though AU Abroad’s Madrid or Mediterranean programs and interested in supplementing courses for Honors credit can use this form.
  • AU Abroad Supplement Form for All Other Locations (PDF)
    Students studying abroad interested in supplementing courses for Honors credit can use this form.
  • Honors Self-Nomination Application (PDF)
    AU students who are not currently in the Honors program but would like to apply should use this form.
  • Capstone Library Permissions Form (DOC)
    Due to the "greening" of AU's campus, the library is now in the process of compiling a searchable database of Honors Capstone work. Before Honors submits your Capstone to Bender Library for inclusion in this database, we need you to complete and sign the following permission form and submit it with your Capstone to Honors.
