Experience the new China from inside one of its ancient capitals. On this program, you will gain insight into China’s recent rise as a major player in the world economy and engage with the political, environmental, and social challenges that the country and its people face today.

Academic Details
This six-week program focuses on China’s role in the world and specifically addresses China-US relations, Chinese economic development, and Chinese politics and political reform, among other topics. The program consists of three academic components worth 3 credits each: a mandatory core seminar that includes lectures and discussions with prominent Chinese and international personnel, an optional internship, and an optional independent study.
Site Visits
Students could enjoy visits to the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, the Bird’s Nest Stadium from the 2008 Summer Olympics, the Forbidden City, the Pagoda of Tianning Temple (built in 1100), and other historical and cultural sites around Beijing.
2009 Program Dates:
June 1 - June 12: Core seminar and site visits
June 15 - July 10: Internship or Independent Study
Program Costs: AU tuition plus program fee. Details provided on page 8 of the program guide [pdf].
Who Should Attend:
Graduate students in all majors and disciplines from any U.S. university may apply. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, an interest in China and the region, and the ability to adapt to a cross-cultural environment.
Logistical Details:
Students are responsible for making their own flight arrangements to/from Beijing. Students will stay in shared apartments for the duration of the Program.

Application instructions and materials will be available in the program guide. Students must read the entire program guide before applying. All applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and must be received by March 16, 2009 for priority consideration.
