WASHINGTON
– American University field hockey player Laura
Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) has been named to the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II Women’s
At-Large First Team. Miller becomes the first player in the programs history
to receive this honor.
Established in 1952, the CoSIDA All-America teams recognize 816 scholar-athletes
annually across Division I, II and III for both outstanding academic and
athletic achievement. A three-time Dean’s List member and a three-time
Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, Miller graduated from the AU
School of Public Affairs in May, 2003 with a cumulative grade point average
of 3.88. She also is an active member of the School of Public Affairs
Leadership Program and was named the 2003 Patriot League Field Hockey
Scholar Athlete of the Year.
In addition to her academic accomplishments, Miller finished her eligibility
at American University as one of the top goalkeepers in school history,
and the nation, ending the 2003 season ranked third in goals against average
at .933 and second in save percentage at .838. She has also been honored
as a 2003 STX/NFHCA Division I All-Region selection, the Patriot League
Defensive Player of the Year and a selection on the South squad of the
STX/NFHCA Division I North/South Senior All-Star game.
“Laura had a tremendous four years at American and is fully deserving
of this honor. She has engaged fully in the process of being a student-athlete,
striving for excellence in the classroom, in volunteer work and on the
field,” American University Head Field Hockey Coach Steve
Jennings said. “We are proud that she is being recognized for
her incredible achievements both on and off the field.”
American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics
program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, completed
its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the
Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s
cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s
soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, field hockey, women’s
tennis and women’s volleyball and two regular-season title in men’s
basketball.
