Eagles Named to Patriot League Golf Academic Honor Roll

WASHINGTON-
The American University men’s golf team placed four student-athletes
on the Patriot League All-Academic Golf Team as announced by the league
office. Sophomore Rob McDonald
(Reisterstown, Md./Park) was named to the team for the second straight
year and led AU with a 3.92 grade-point average.
McDonald competed in three tournaments for the Eagles in 2003-04 and had
his best outing at the AU Classic, where he finished 20th with a final
score of 160. He finished the year with an average round score of 82.2.
Senior Matt Michaels
(Hamilton, Ontario/Westdale Secondary) finished with a 3.90 grade-point
average in the spring semester. Michael’s competed in four tournaments
for the Eagles in 2003-04 and had his best effort in the Lafayette Invitational,
which he placed 24th. His best round of the year was a 76 also at the
Lafayette Invitational. He finished the year with an 83.5 per round average.
Junior Chris Schieffer
(Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) posted a 3.35 grade-point average this past
spring. He competed in all 11 tournaments the Eagles played in 2003-04
and he snared two top 10 finishes and three top 20 finishes. He finished
the year with a 77.8 shot average and fired the best individual round
of the year when he shot a 68 at the Kauai Collegiate Cup. He finished
fourth at Kauai and his best finish was at the Robert Morris when he placed
second. Overall, he led the team with three rounds under par.
Senior David Stone (Morgantown,
W.V./Morgantown) registered a 3.34 grade-point average in his final season
at AU. On the course he competed in three tournaments and grabbed one
top-20 finish. His best round was a 76 at the AU Classic, which helped
him finish 11th in the tourney. His stroke average for the year was 78.2.
American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics
program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, completed
its third year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the
Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s
cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s
soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis
and women’s volleyball, field hockey and a regular-season title
in men’s basketball.
