Eagles Finish Fifth in Colgate Invitational
Seth Kaplan ties for second at 144

Seth Kaplan led AU with a two-day total of 144.

HAMILTON, N.Y. - American University finished fifth out of 19 teams at the Colgate Invitational with a team score of 601 for the two rounds of play. Senior Seth Kaplan (Dallas, Tx./J.J. Pearce) was tremendous for AU, finishing in a three-way tie for second (144). In today’s final round he posted a 71, two shots better than his opening day score of 73.

Binghamton University captured the tournament held at Seven Oaks Golf Course for the fourth consecutive year. Binghamton’s winning score was 584. AU’s score of 601 was just six shots off of second-place Loyola (595).

Junior Phil Kief (Kingwood, Tx./Kingwood) finished 21st with a score of 150. His rounds were 74 and 76. David Stone (Morgantown, W.V./Morgantown) finished 35th at 152 (78 and 74) while freshman Todd Shagin (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) scored for the Eagles in his first varsity match. Shagin had rounds of 78 and 77 for a total of 155, good for 49th. Junior Chris Schieffer (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) did not score for AU, but finished 73rd after rounds of 82 and 78.

The Eagles will not have much time to enjoy the success of the Colgate Invitational. They will host the AU Classic at the Rome Country Club tomorrow, Monday, Septemeber 8th.
