Eagles Grab AU Classic Title
Freshman Todd Shagin finishes second

Chris Schieffer shot a 71 in the first round and finished with a 148 for the day.

ROME, N.Y. - American University finished first in the AU Classic behind the outstanding effort of freshman Todd Shagin (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood). Playing for the third consecutive day seemed to sharpen Shagin’s game, as he shot rounds of 75 and 71 to finish with a 146. Overall, three Eagles finished in the top six.

The individual title was won by Sean Donnelly of Long Island University, who shot a 141 on rounds of 71 and 70 at the Rome Country Club. Long Island University finished second in the team scoring race at 604, while La Salle and Mount St. Mary’s finished tied for third at 626. Colgate, Holy Cross and Fairfield all tied for fifth at 636.

Junior Chris Schieffer (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) was tied for first after the first round of the day when he and Donnelly both shot a 71. Schieffer posted a 77 in the second round and finished the day with a 148 (5th best score of the day). Junior Phil Kief (Kingwood, Tx./Kingwood) had a 149 after his two rounds of 74 and 75, which placed him sixth for the day.

Senior David Stone (Morgantown, W.V./Morgantown) had a 154 (76-78) while fellow senior Seth Kaplan (Dallas, Tx./J.J. Pearce) finished at 162 (82-80).

The Eagles will now be off for nearly a month. They next will be in action at the Robert Morris Invitational, which will be on Monday, October 13th.
