Lynchburg, Va.— Senior Ric Patiejunas (Vilnius, Lithuania) scored 15 points and led AU to a 73-49 victory over the Highlanders of Radford University. Patiejunas was five-of-seven from the field and also grabbed a career-high seven rebounds. For AU 11 of the 14 players on head coach Jeff Jones’ roster scored and the Eagles outrebounded Radford by 20 (44-24).
Senior Glenn
Stokes (Silver Spring, Md./Tallahassee CC) had eight points in ten
minutes while fellow senior Steven
Miles (Alexandria, Va/Coastal Carolina) had eight points and four
assists. Sophomore Ryan Graham
(St. John Brunswick, Canada/Brewster Academy) scored the first point of
his collegiate career as did Jamaal Caterina (Portland, Me./Brewster Academy). American was never in serious trouble after the first ten minutes of the game. They went into the half up twenty (37-17) and pushed the lead out early in the second half. They shot 51.9 percent from the floor (27-52) and had 21 assists on 27 made field goals. About the only area the Eagles were down in is free throw shooting, where AU managed just 10-of-20 from behind the stripe. American (2-3) will not have much time to rest as they will play Howard University on December 9, 2002.
