WASHINGTON, D.C. -- American Universitys Patrick Doctor (Gwynn Park, Md./Gwynn Park) was named to the Patriot Leagues preseason All-League Team, as announced by the league office this morning. Voting was conducted by the leagues coaches and sports information directors. American is entering its inaugural season of membership in the Patriot League, which includes Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, and Navy. A 6-9 junior forward, Doctor returns as the Eagles leading scorer and rebounder from a year ago, averaging 16.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He was an All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) selection in Americans final season as a member of the CAA. Doctor is joined on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team by Bryan Bailey (Bucknell), Tim Campolieta (Colgate), Chris Spatola (Army) and Tim Szatko (Holy Cross), who was also chosen as the leagues preseason player of the year. American was selected
sixth in the preseason team poll. Holy Cross, the defending champion,
earned 10 first-place votes to garner the top slot. Navy and Colgate followed
in second . Lehigh was chosen fourth and Bucknell fifth. Lafayette and
Army rounded out the voting of the eight-team league. American University became a full member of the Patriot League on July 1, after competing in the CAA since the 1985-86 academic year. American University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport Division I athletics program, featuring 10 womens sports and nine for men.
