Patriot League Championship Post-Game Press Conference

Head Coach Jeff Jones:

Holy Cross is a terrific team and we wish them well in the NCAA tournament. The biggest thing I’m feeling right now is a tremendous amount of pride in these guys, who I think had a terrific season, and I’m grateful that I had an opportunity to work with all of them. Five of them will be gone next year, and I hope that this whets our appetite and that we can get in this situation again.

Junior Guard Glenn Stokes:

I don’t think it (the pre-game hype) was a celebration too soon. Our fans have been waiting for us to get a win here. They expected us to come out here and play for the win, and they were looking forward to it. This game was huge, because our fan support was so high. For us to lose by four points, hopefully it didn’t (disappoint) our fans. Hopefully they’re going to still believe in us, and we’ll have the fans that we had today here again next year.

All week, the students, alumni and teachers have been very hyped about this game, along with our coach and all the players. It’s been a great environment.

On Steven Miles’ missed shot near the end:

Big-time players make big-time plays. If that shot had gone in, he wouldn’t be down on himself, he’d be happy. Everybody would be cheering for him. It wasn’t a bad shot, he felt it. You never know if you don’t take it. Steve had a good look, and he took it.

College of the Holy Cross

Head Coach Ralph Willard:

I think Jeff Jones has had a great year and he’s certainly reestablished the program here. I think the crowd and the atmosohere was great, that’s great for our league and for American University. I’m really happy for our kids, especially our two seniors, two kids who really did a great job leading our basketball team and helping it grow. The freshman on this team have stepped up to do a great job as well.

We’ve been focusing on Holy Cross defense, trying to improve our selves. That’s one of the things that won us the game. That’s what we wanted in the second half, that’s what won the game for us.
