Soccer Posts Three Spring Wins
Eagles 3-1 on
the spring, only loss to DC United.
March 29, 2001 The AU Men's Soccer team is in the midst of its spring schedule and owns a 3-1 record with its only loss at the hands of DC United of the Major League Soccer. DC United 2, American 0, March 7, 2001 Playing at RFK Stadium, AU fought hard against DC United of the MLS but fell 2-0. Nino Marcantonio (So., Bethesda, MD/ Churchill) had a chance to score the game's first goal but barely missed the net in the opening half. Tied 0-0 at halftime, United got goals from Chris Albright and Abdul Thompson Conteh to pull out the victory. American 1, George Washington 0, March 9, 2001 Kris Kuykendall (So. Fairfax, VA/Madison) scored the only goal of the match at Reeves Field in a hardfought battle against the Colonials. David Pryor (So., Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) had the assist on Kuykendall's goal. American 1, UMBC 0, March 9, 2001 Only minutes after beating GW, the Eagles took the field to face a fresh UMBC squad. AU was up to the test, however, and rallied for a 1-0 victory. Melvin Espinal (Fr., Houston, TX/ Lamar) scored the game-winner on an assist from Kris Bertch (So., Clinton, NJ/ Pingry). American 1, Richmond 0, March 24, 2001 In a physical battle against a tough CAA rival, AU's Melvin Espinal again scored the only goal of the match to give the Eagles their third win of the spring. AU next faces the Hershey Wildcats of the A-League at Lebanon Valley College on April 7, 2001. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. On April 21, the Eagles will take on Seton Hall, Princeton and Mercer Community College at MCC in New Jersey. The first game is scheduled for 11 a.m.
