Herman Named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Freshman Records First Career Hat Trick in Tie with No. 17 Princeton

Andrew Herman recorded his first career hat trick to lead American to a 3-3 tie with No. 17 Princeton on Saturday.

WASHINGTON — American University’s Andrew Herman (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) was named the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week for the week of Oct. 21, as announced by the league office this afternoon. It is the fourth Patriot League award for American men’s soccer, which is in its inaugural season as a member of the league.

Herman, a freshman forward, came off the bench to record his first career hat trick, scoring three goals in a 3-3 tie with No. 17 Princeton on Saturday. His first goal, in the 26th minute, tied the game at 1-1, and then he gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead less than three minute later with his second tally. With the game knotted at 2-2, Herman pushed American ahead, 3-2, in the 67th minute.

With his three-goal day, Herman now has four goals on the season for a total of eight points.

Adam Rosen was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Sept. 29, and Kris Bertsch and Shawn Kuykendall were named Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Oct. 8.

American is 3-1-0 in Patriot League play, good for second place overall, and is 5-6-1 overall. The game with Princeton marked the fourth ranked team the Eagles have faced this season.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 23, when they host Army in a Patriot League match at 2:00 p.m. on Reeves Field. American then hosts Penn State on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 2:00 p.m.

American University became a full member of the Patriot League on July 1, after competing in the CAA since the 1985-86 academic year. The University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport Division I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men.
