WASHINGTON - American University’s men’s soccer team closed the regular season in fine fashion, and it was recognized by the Patriot League as Adam Rosen (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) and Shawn Kuykendall (Vienna. Va./Madison) were honored by the league office this afternoon.

Rosen earned the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, and second straight week, while Kuykendall earned the league’s Rookie of the Week award for the second time this season. The awards now push American’s total to seven for the season.

Rosen, a senior forward, helped lead American close its regular season with a 2-0 week, claiming wins over William & Mary (3-0) and Colgate (1-0). He tallied a goal and two assists on the week, all coming in the win over William & Mary.
The team-leader in points this season with 20, Rosen has tallied eight goals and four assists. He scored a goal in six of the seven Patriot League games this season, and ranks second in the league in both points and goals.

Kuykendall erupted for two goals and two assists this week, doubling his yearly point total to 12. He had two goals and an assist against William & Mary, and tacked on an assist on the lone goal in the Colgate win. Kuykendall was the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Oct. 8.

American finished the regular season with a 6-1-0 mark in Patriot League play, while going 10-7-1 overall. The Eagles will be the second seed in the upcoming league championship, hosted by top-seeded Holy Cross, Nov. 15-17, in Worcester, Mass.

The Eagles will face No. 3-seed Lehigh at 1:30 in the semifinals on Friday. No. 1-seed Holy Cross takes on No. 4 Navy at 11:00 a.m. The winners of the two games will meet for the Patriot League title, and subsequent NCAA automatic bid, on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

American University became a full member of the Patriot League on July 1, after competing in the CAA since the 1985-86 academic year. The University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport Division I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men.
