AU Men’s Soccer Attains Highest Rankings of the Season
Eagles continue to move up in national polls

Larry McDonald and the Eagles are now No. 11 in the NSCAA/adidas national rankings.

WASHINGTON — In the midst of a five-match winning streak, the American University men’s soccer squad moved up two spots to No. 11 in the NSCAA/adidas poll this week. AU is currently 10-2-0 overall and leading the Patriot League with a 3-0-0 record.

The Eagles also moved up six spots to No. 13 in the Soccertimes.com poll and six spots to No. 16 in the College Soccer News poll. In the NSCAA/adidas regional rankings, the Eagles are currently second in the South Atlantic Region.

Last week AU defeated Loyola at home, 1-0 and Patriot League foe Bucknell, 3-0. On tap this week, the Eagles travel to Princeton tomorrow for a match at 7:30 p.m. and return home for a showdown with Holy Cross on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Sophomore forward Andrew Herman (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) was named the co-Patriot League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season after scoring two goals and adding an assist against Bucknell. Herman leads the team with seven goals and 21 points and is second on the squad with seven assists.

American University is beginning its second year of membership in the Patriot League. In its inaugural year it captured league championships in men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse. The University fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men.
