Kinney Named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week
AU senior strong in backfield in key PL matchup last weekend

Jeff Kinney was named the PL Defensive Player of the Week.

WASHINGTON — American University senior Jeff Kinney (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 3 after playing solid defense in helping the Eagles tie Lehigh in an important Patriot League match on Saturday.

After starting the match in the midfield, Kinney moved to the central backfield for AU after the Eagles went down a man due to a red card in the eighth minute. Kinney played very solid defense, holding Lehigh’s Evan Bruno to only two shots on goal and keeping him scoreless in the match. Kinney was instrumental in the backfield as the Eagles were able to come away with a very important draw.

Earlier this season, Kinney was named to the Penn State/Nike Classic All-Tournament Team. A member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Kinney has also scored one goal this season.

Kinney and the Eagles have their final regular season match this Saturday at Colgate. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
