WASHINGTON — At the Mountain State Invitational in Princeton, W. Va. this past weekend, the American University men's soccer team continued its impressive spring season, defeating Marshall, 5-0, and Wake Forest, 2-0.

In the first match against Marshall, AU used goals from Sean Albright, John Fico, David Marut, Gordon Templemen and Nick Zaron to overwhelm the Herd. Shawn Kuykendall assisted on Albright's and Zaron's goals while Marut and Andrew Herman also added assists.

Wake Forest, a team that spent much of the fall season ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA/adidas poll, was AU's second opponent of the tournament. Peter Philipakos netted a goal off a feed from Herman as the Eagles went up, 1-0. American's second goal came as Herman was tackled in the box and the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick. Kuykendall converted the PK as AU won, 2-0.

The Eagles return to action next weekend at the PDA Complex in New Jersey as AU faces Princeton, Seton Hall and Pennsylvania.
