Tennis Wins Sixth Straight
Eagles Down
Richmond, 5-1, at Reeves Courts
April 7, 2001 Washington, DC -- American University defeated Richmond, 5-1, in men's tennis here on Saturday afternoon. It was the sixth consecutive victory for the Eagles, who improve to 7-5 overall, and 3-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play. In first singles, American's Bence Hamori topped Rob Flader of Richmond, 6-2, 6-2, to set the pace for the rest of the afternoon. The Eagles swept matches all the way to sixth singles, where Richmond's Dan Scrafford downed AU's Tushar Garg, 6-4, 6-1, to claim the Spiders' lone win of the match. No doubles matches were contested the afternoon, resulting in the six-point total scoring system. In second singles, AU's Jason Moon defeated Niki Doll, 6-7, 7-5 (10-5), and the Eagles' Juan Jaysingh defeated David Donn, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. In fourth singles, Guillaume Tarrelle downed Todd Parker, 7-5, 6-2, and in fifth singles, Josh Procacci defeated Mark Scordo, 6-4, 6-2. American returns to
action on Wednesday, Apr. 11, when it hosts Navy, at 2:30 p.m. at Reeves
Courts. The match is being billed as a "Patriot League Preview,"
as the schools will face each other on a regular basis as American becomes
a full member of the Patriot League in the coming 2001-02 academic year.
