Men's Tennis Puts Away Maryland Garg a double winner for American Eagles
February 8, 2003 COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Taking two of three doubles matches to start off hot, the American University men's tennis team defeated Maryland Saturday afternoon, 5-2. Junior Tushar Garg teamed up with senior Andreas Kulcsar for an 8-3 decision over UM's Scott Peters and Chris Chiu at first doubles before winning at No. 2 singles over Pierre Rudder, 6-1, 6-1. Junior Rubin Rivero and senior Jonah Fliegelman were victorious at No. 2 doubles over Rudder and Scott Baxter, 8-5. AU junior Guillaume Tarralle captured first singles over Chiu, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6. Senior Kyle Bailey earned his second win of the season at singles with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Troy Demers at No. 3 singles. Freshman Juancarlo Vazquez cinched the final AU win with a 6-0, 6-2 final over Baxter at No. 6 singles. Junior Juan Jaysingh and Bailey fell at No. 3 doubles to Maryland's Demers and David Reichsfeld, 8-5. Rivero fell to Peters at No. 4 singles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Fliegelman lost to Reichsfeld at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2. The Eagles will head to Davidson on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for a 2 p.m. start.
