Freshman Juancarlo Vazquez picked up a win at No. 3 singles for AU.

MIAMI, Fla. -- The American University recorded its first loss of the 2003 season with a 6-1 decision to Miami Tuesday night as freshman Juancarlo Vazquez secured the lone singles win for AU.

Vazquez defeated Luis Manrique, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 singles while seniors Kyle Bailey and Jonah Fliegelman earned a win at No. 2 doubles over Manrique and Shauny Hoyes, 9-8.

AU junior Tushar Garg moved up to No. 1 singles for the first time this season, losing to No. 18 Todd Widom, 6-3, 6-1. Fliegelman fell in the tiebreaker set at No. 6 singles to Hoyes, who is ranked No. 86, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (7).

American (5-1) will host Georgetown on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. on Reeves Courts.
