No. 68 Eagles Topple Both Bucknell and Lehigh, 6-0
Men's tennis makes it three in a row over Patriot League rivals

Tushar Garg was strong with two wins at No. 1 for American.

WASHINGTON -- Facing two Patriot League opponents in the same day, the American University men's tennis team swept both Bucknell and Lehigh, 6-0, Sunday afternoon at the Tennis Center of College Park. The matches were played indoors and did not include doubles because of the inclement weather.

Junior Tushar Garg (Mumbai, India/Bradenton) earned a pair of wins at No. 1 singles for the Eagles (10-2, 3-0 Patriot League) including a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of Nick Denefrio. Freshman Juancarlo Vazquez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Centre Educativo Superior Vocational), senior Jonah Fliegelman (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) and junior Juan Jaysingh (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) also recorded wins in both matches for AU as Bucknell drops to 2-12 overall and 0-3 in Patriot League play.

Against the Bison, Jaysingh took down Asher Salam, 6-0, 6-3. Junior Ruben Rivero (Sevilla, Spain/Suffolk Community College) was also strong over Gerald DiChiara, 7-5, 6-3. Sebastian Proisy won his second singles match of the year with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Aaron Saperstein.

Junior Guillaume Tarralle (Paris, France/French International School) battled in both sets for a come-from-behind, 7-6, 7-5, win at No. 2 singles over Mountain Hawk Randall Smalley. Senior Kyle Bailey (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) quickly finished off Jon Swanson at No. 3 singles in the Lehigh match, 6-3, 6-1.

Jaysingh and Fliegelman overpowered their final opponents in the Nos. 5 and 6 slots. Jaysingh defeated Andrew Shapiro, 6-0, 6-2, while Fliegelman registered a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Jeff Samuels. Lehigh is now 6-6 overall and 0-2 in Patriot League action.

American will play at Navy next weekend.
