68 AU Men's Tennis Defeats Colgate, 5-0
March 29, 2003 WASHINGTON -- Changing the venue to the Maryland Tennis Center because of inclement weather, the No. 68 American University men's tennis team defeated its first Patriot League challenge, Colgate, 5-0, Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in Patriot League action while the Raiders drop to 8-6 and 0-1 in Patriot League play. AU swept the singles as Tushar Garg (Mumbai, India/Bradenton Academy) defeated Reed Hagmann at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2. Guillaume Tarralle (Paris, France/French International School) was a winner at No. 2 over Eric Sacculo, 7-6, 6-4, while Kyle Bailey (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) took out Jake Heims at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2. No. 116 Juancarlo Vazquez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Centre Educativo Superior Vocational) recovered from a 3-6 deficit in the first set to beat Evan Ambrose in the final two, 6-1, 6-3. Garg and Taralle teamed up to beat Hagmann and Heims at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, while Ruben Rivero (Sevilla, Spain/Suffolk County Community College) and Juan Jaysingh (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) won at No. 3 doubles over Sacculo and Blake Willmarth, 8-4.
