American Men's Tennis Advances Six Players Through Two Rounds at PL Men's Flighted Tennis Tournament

WASHINGTON - The AU Eagles men’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season at the 2003 Patriot League Men’s Flighted Tennis Tournament with six players advancing through two rounds and three advancing to the final rounds.

In the second singles bracket, 2003 Rookie of the Year and first seeded Juan Carlo Vazquez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Centre Educativo de Superior Vocational/Saint John’s) defeated Lafayette’s John Zazzu, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round after a bye in the first. He then went on to finish off Michael Good of Army, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. In the finals, Vazquez fell 6-1, 6-2 to Navy’s Stanley Kahl.

Also in the second singles bracket, second seeded Jonah Fliegelman (Philadelphia, Pa. / Central) moved onto the second round of play after defeating Sebastian Salas of Army, 6-1, 6-4. In the third round, he was defeated by Stanley Kahl 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles action, the duo of Tushar Garg (Mumbai, India / Bradenton Academy) and Guillaume Tarralle (Paris, France / French International School) moved on to the finals after posting wins over the Colgate team of Evan Ambrose and Jon Bedard and the Lehigh team of Brad Nelson and Ty Nelson. The Eagle’s team fell 8-5 in the finals to the Army team of Ragael Albornoz and John Sabia.

The Eagles will look onto the spring season after the East Coast Collegiate Championships on Oct. 17-19 in Old Dominion and the ITA Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Oct. 20-26.
