LEAGUE CHAMPS!
April 25, 2004 WASHINGTON - For the third straight year, the AU men's tennis team dominated the Patriot League tournament and took home the championship title, defeating Army, 4-1, and clinching their third-straight NCAA berth. Senior Guillaume Tarralle (Paris, France / French International School), the tournament Most Valuable Player, led the Eagles to victory, taking the first singles win of the day, defeating John Houghton, 6-4, 6-2, in the third position. Against Navy, Tarralle also took home a victory for the team, defeating Brandon Carter, 6-4, 6-2. Playing in the No. 5 position, senior Ruben Rivero (Sevilla, Spain / Suffolk County Community College) encouraged the Eagles along their path to victory with an enthusiastic win over Michael Good, 6-3, 6-0. Following suit shortly after Rivero's win, Andreas Kulcsar (Nuremberg, Germany/Neues Gum. Nuremberg) put the team within one of the victory, defeating Sebastian Salas, 6-4, 6-4, in the sixth position. Jonah Fliegelman (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) clinched the title for the team, closing out his best Patriot League season. Playing in the second spot, Fliegelman defeated Rafael Albornoz 6-3 in the first set only to have him take the lead by two in the second. Coming from behind, Fliegelman secured the victory for the team with a 6-4 victory in the second. In doubles, the Eagles were unable to take home a victory, with Army defeating the second and third position teams, 8-2 and 8-4, respectively. With the victory, the Eagles will now move onto the NCAA tournament, May 15-16. American -4 Doubles: Singles:
