American
Men Top East Carolina 6-1 March 28, 2002
WASHINGTON American Universitys mens tennis team won a hard-fought match against East Carolina today, 6-1. The score is not indicative of how tight the match actually was as four of the six singles matches went to three sets. The Eagles, who are ranked No. 60 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, have now won five straight matches to move their record to 9-1 (2-0 in the Patriot League). Seniors Bence Hamori (Budapest, Hungary/Budapest U. of Phys. Ed.) and Josh Procacci (Naples, Fla./Community School of Naples) won their singles matches in three sets after both lost the first set 6-3. Hamori came back to win the second set 6-3 and the third 6-2 to take No. 1 singles over Charl Meyer. Procacci breezed through the second set 6-1 before winning the third 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Hamori and Procacci also teamed up in doubles play, winning 8-0 at second doubles. Sophomores Tushar Garg (Mumbai, India/Bradenton Academy [Fla.]) and Guillaume Tarralle (Paris, France/French International School [Md.]) were two Eagles to win their singles matches in straight sets. Garg won at No. 4 singles and Tarralle at No. 6. Garg played with Andreas Kulcsar (Nuremberg, Germany/Neues Gym. Nuremberg) at No. 3 doubles as the pairing remained perfect in the spring with a 8-5 victory. Also winning for American was senior Kyle Bailey (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) who dropped the first set to Marcus Nica 6-3. However, Bailey responded, winning the next to sets 6-2, 6-1 for his sixth victory of the season. After one day off,
the Eagles will compete again at home Saturday facing James Madison at
2:30 p.m. on Reeves Courts.
