Tennis Prevails in Battle With UMBC, 4-3 April 18, 2002
BALTIMORE, Md. After an 11 day layoff, the American men's tennis team returned to action this morning at Maryland-Baltimore County. In an extremely close match with the Retrievers, the Eagles were victorious in the match, 4-3. With their 12th straight win, the Eagles move to 15-1 on the season. The day started well for American as they won two of the three doubles matches to win the crucial doubles point. Josh Procacci and Bence Hamori teamed up at second doubles to win 8-2. Tushar Garg and Andreas Kulcsar also won 8-2 at third doubles as the pairing ran their spring record to 12-0. The depth of the Eagles proved to be the difference in the match as American won the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles spots to claim the victory. Juan Jaysingh earned the win at No. 4 singles, easily defeating Dimitri Bondar, 6-2, 6-2.. At No. 5 singles, Guillaume Tarralle was victorious over Chris Cetateanu 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Kulcsar got the win at No. 6 singles as he edged Luis Baraldi, 6-1, 7-6. American concludes the regular season with two Patriot League showdowns against the service academies. The Eagles face Army tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at West Point and Navy at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at Reeves Courts. Singles
