Advances to Patriot League Championship Match Match

WASHINGTON American used some solid play from its most dependable players to hold off Army, 4-0, in the semifinals of the Patriot League Men's Tennis Championship. The Eagles advance to tomorrow's Championship match. The match was much closer than the score indicated, and was not decided until American's Guillaume Tarralle closed out Jarrett Skrobarcek, 7-6, 6-3. Tarralle continued his torrid pace, winning his 15th consecutive match, tying a school record. American also tied the school record for wins in a season with 18. When the match was decided, Army led in two of the three remaining matches, each of which was in the third set. Doubles action opened the day's play and the teams battled for the important point. Army brothers Arnie and Rafael Albornaz teamed to defeat Kyle Bailey and Tarralle at first singles, 8-1. American rallied at second doubles, with Bence Hamori and Josh Procacci claiming an 8-2 win over John Sabia and Jeff Lau. It was at third doubles where the match swung to American's favor for the first time. Tushar Garg and Andreas Kulscar gutted out an 8-5 win over Sonny Avichal and Skrobarcek. Juan Jaysingh was the first Eagle to close out his singles match, winning 7-5, 6-2 over Avichal at fourth singles. Garg followed suit, winning 6-4, 7-6 at fourth singles over Rafael Albornaz. American set a new Patriot League Tournament attendance record with 216 fans. It is the fourth Patriot League Championship record this year (Women's Volleyball, Men's Basketball, Women's Tennis, Men's Tennis). Tomorrow's championship will be be moved indoors to the Dana Johnson Tennis Center in College Park, Md. The Championship match will get underway at 10:00 a.m.
