American Men Compete at Swimming U.S. Spring Nationals
Liscinsky sets school meter record in backstroke; Bassett claims 14th in breaststroke

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Junior Mark Liscinsky (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and sophomore Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) are competing in post-season action this week at the U.S. Spring Nationals for swimming at the University of Minnesota’s University Aquatic Center. In the first day of action on Wed., Mar. 20, Liscinsky set a new school long course meter record in the 200 backstroke, finishing in a personal-best time of 2:03.54.

Liscinsky also competed in the 100 freestyle, finishing with a time of 53.20 in the preliminaries and 53.27 in the finals for a 21st place finish in the event. Meanwhile, Bassett swam the 200 breaststroke in a preliminary time of 2:22.61 and a finals time of 2:24.04 for 14th place.

The events slated for day two of the competition on Thursday include the 200 freestyle, 400 individual medley and the 400 freestyle relay. The U.S. Nationals will continue through Saturday, Mar. 23.

The American men’s swimming and diving team finished in second place at the 2002 Patriot League Championships. Liscinsky earned the Male Swimmer of the Meet award, while both he and Bassett were also named to the All-League first team.
