Liscinsky Named PL Men’s Swimmer of the Week
WASHINGTON --American University senior Mark Liscinsky (Olney, Md./Sherwood) earned Patriot League Men’s Swimmer of the Week recognition for his performance in the Eagles match against UMBC last weekend. The 2001-02 Patriot League Championship Men’s Swimmer of the Meet gained two first-place finishes along with a second-place finish to help the Eagles beat UMBC. Liscinsky turned in a time of 1:39.33 in the men’s 200 freestyle, breaking his own pool recordrecord by .50 seconds. His first-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:50.53 just missed the pool record by .50 seconds. Liscinsky concluded the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 1:53.95. AU, picked third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, will face Army in its first away meet next Friday at 1 p.m. American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its inaugural year of membership in the Patriot League. The University had an extremely successful year to date on respective fields of play, capturing league championships in men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
