Named PL Male Swimmer of the Week
WASHINGTON -- American University’s Dominick Szabo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) was named the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week after capturing two events, and setting new pool, program and Patriot League records while making the cut for the NCAAs in the 100-yard breaststroke this past weekend at the Princeton Invitational. Szabo cruised past his next competitor in the 100-yard breastroke by 2 1/2 seconds, winning in a time of 54.14. He set a record of 54.00 in the preliminaries. The time broke an 11-year-old Patriot League record of 54.44. He was also first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:01.00 and was second in the 200 IM 1:49.90. The junior was a 2002 All-Patriot League selection in the 100- and 200-yard breastroke and helped the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays claim first at the Patriot League Championships. American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its inaugural year of membership in the Patriot League. The University had an extremely successful year to date on respective fields of play, capturing league championships in men's cross country, women's cross country, men’s soccer, women's soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
