INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- American University juniors Dominick Szabo (North Wales, Penn./North Penn) and Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) each set new personal bests at the ConocoPhillips Spring National Championships.

Szabo, who was named AU's 18th swimming & diving All-American at the NCAA Championships in the 100-yard breaststroke, took ninth in the 100-meter breaststroke preliminaries in 1:03.27 to qualify for the Olympic Trials. In the finals that evening, he was 11th in 1:03.72.

Both Bassett and Szabo competed in the 200-meter individual medley. Szabo swam to a first alternate position for the finals in 2:08.98 - his fastest ever - while Bassett swam a personal best of 2:10.82.

"They both had strong swims and represented American University well," said Head Coach Mark Davin.

Bassett was also 30th in the 400-meter individual medley preliminaries (4:40.25) and came in 58th in the 100-meter breaststroke preliminaries in 1:07.11.
