Lidstrom Honored as Women’s Swimming PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Junior fourth AU student-athlete to win award this year

WASHINGTON — American University junior Jessica Lidstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/The Swedish School in London) was named the Women’s Swimming & Diving Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year as voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

A scholar-athlete nominee must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. This is the second consecutive year that Lidstrom has won the award and the fourth time in Patriot League history that a woman has won twice in swimming & diving. Lidstrom, who has a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.86, is majoring in biology.

She took third in both the 100 freestyle (52.75) and in the 200 freestyle (1:53.27) at the Patriot League Championships held at Bucknell in February. She was also fifth in the 200 individual medley at the league championships in 2:08.95 while earning All-League honors.

Among all-time leaders at American, Lidstrom ranks second in both the 100 freeestyle (51.95) and the 200 freestyle (1:52.15). She is also fifth in the 50 freestyle in 24.40.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, is in its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
