American Lands 10 Men on PL Swimming & Diving Academic Honor Roll
All-American Bell one of two with 4.00 GPAs

WASHINGTON — The American University men’s swimming and diving team placed 10 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for spring of 2003 as announced today by Patriot League Exective Director, Carolyn Schlie Femovich. Senior Seth Bell (Jenkinton, Pa./Abington) and freshman Kyle Taylor (Anaheim, Calif./Troy) were the only two student-athletes in the league to earn 4.0 GPAs during the spring term.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average (GPA) in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the six winter and nine spring League-sponsored championship sports. Bucknell led the way with 12 selections to the honor roll while the Eagles were second with 10.

AU had three seniors qualify including Bell, a Verizon Academic All-American At-Large Second Team pick, the 2002 and 2003 Patriot League Championship Male Swimmer of the Meet Mark Liscinsky (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and All-Patriot League swimmer Mike Lawson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown School).

Juniors Ethan Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), Erwan Jeffroy (Mareil-Marly, France/Lycee Jeanne D’Albret), Stephen Maher (Stuart, Fla./Lincoln) and Adam Schryver (Harrington Park, N.J./North Valley Old Tappan) were all honored by the Patriot League. Two sophomores, William Linnoila (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) and Daniel Sinetar (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), and Taylor were also selected for their academic achievement.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, is in its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and a regular-season title in men’s basketball.
