WASHINGTON
— American University graduated senior Mark
Liscinsky (Olney, Md./Sherwood) was named a 2003 Scholar All-American
by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. He provided a
solid example for his team as both the men’s and women’s swimming
& diving programs ranked among the top 15 in Division 1 programs for
team grade-point average (GPA).
Liscinsky impressed in his final semester with a 3.54 GPA in visual media
and earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He closed
out his career owning six AU records including the 100 freestyle, 200
freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 100 individual medley and the
200 individual medley. In his final year of competition, Liscinsky qualified
for NCAA Nationals while repeating as the Patriot League Male Swimmer
of the Meet at league championships.
"Mark is a perfect example of people who come to our program and
who are truly ready to embrace everything that we do,” said Head
Coach Mark Davin.
Also joining Liscinsky
in receiving individual academic awards were senior Seth
Bell (Jenkington, Pa./Abington) and junior Ethan
Bassett (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill). Bell was a 2nd team Verizon
Academic All-American while Bassett was a College Swimming Coaches Association
Honorable Mention Scholar All-American.
Coached by Davin, both the men’s and women's swimming & diving
programs have achieved incredible academic standards in the past decade.
For the past eight years, both teams have earned CSACAA Team Academic
Awards for their combined GPAs. In the spring of 2003, the men’s
squad was third among Division 1 programs in the nation with a 3.36 GPA
while the women were 12th with a 3.40 GPA.
American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics
program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, is in its
second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot
League, the University has captured league championships in men’s
cross country, women’s lacrosse, women’s cross country, men’s
soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis
and women’s volleyball, and a regular-season title in men’s
basketball.
