American Men's Track Returns To Action
Eagles Bring Home Two Individual Titles, One School Record

FAIRFAX, Va. — American University’s men’s track team returned to competition after having over a month off. The Eagles travelled to George Mason to compete in the Father Diamond Invitational.

Andy Ellerhorst set a new school record in the 500-meter dash in 1:06.00. He broke his own previous mark by .03. Jovens Colas won the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:30.97. This time moves him into second all-time. Sean O'Brien captured the 3,000 meter run in 8:35.14. O'Brien's time places him sixth all-time.

The a number of other Eagles cracked the Top-10 list this weekend. Ed Topolewski moved into third all-time in the 500, running 1:08.83. Freshman Sean Duffy placed fourth in the 1,000-meters in 2:31.70, a time good for third all-time. Carlos Hunt placed fifth in the same race and moved into seventh all-time. Matt Seymour now sits in fourth all-time in the mile run after his 4:17.22 performance. Finally, the 4x800 relay team of Duffy, Matt Barresi, Michael Edwards, and Mike Reilly is tenth all-time after running 8:25.17 on Saturday.

Other solid performances at the meet include Frank Malpigli's fifth place finish in the 3,000-meters (8:48.88). Pat MacAdie placed 14th in the mile in 4:32.84.

The men’s teams return to action on January 19 at the Lehigh Quad. The meet gets underway at 10:00 a.m.
