Record Setting Day for American Men's Track Jan. 27, 2002 | Meet Stats LANDOVER, Md. American Universitys mens track team continued its successful season Sunday at the PVA Collegiate Invitational at the Prince Georges Sports and Learning Complex. Competing against a number of college squads as well as unattached athletes, the Eagles recorded three first place finishes and ten additions to the all-time top-ten list. The meet was highlighted by freshman Sean Duffy's school indoor record in the mile. Duffy ran 4:09.61 to break the 1974 indoor record of David Reinhart. Duffy's time qualifies him for the IC4A Championships. Teammate Matt Seymour also qualified for the IC4A meet, finishing second in the race to Duffy in 4:14.03. Seymour is fourth all-time in the mile. Carlos Hunt finished in third in the mile, coming in third in 4:22.41. Hunt now stands eighth all-time in the mile. Patrick MacAdie concluded the Eagles top-four sweep in the mile, running 4:24.79. Sean O'Brien captured the 800-meter run in an IC4A qualifying time of 1:53.45. O'Brien is now second all-time in the event. Andy Ellerhorst ran the 800-meters for the first time in his career and ran 1:58.32, good for third fastest all-time. The Eagles other first place finish came from Frank Malpigli in the 5,000-meter run. His time of 15:08.4 placed him over 45 seconds in front of second place. Malpigli's time is now second fastest all-time in the event. Teammate Matt Barresi finished in third in 16:04.0, over 35 seconds faster than his previous best. Barresi is now fifth all-time. Ed Topolewski had another solid meet, finishing fifth in the 500-meter dash in a time of 1:08.25. His time is now second fastest all-time. Topolewski also ran the third fastest time ever in the 200-meter dash, running 24.25. Michael Edwards also moved onto the top-ten list, running 55.79 in the 400-meter dash. The mens team return to action on Feb. 16-17 at the Patriot League Championships in West Point, N.Y.. The meet gets underway at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
