Men's Track Begins Outdoor Season March 16, 2002 | Day One Results | Day Two Results
CHARLOTTE, N.C. American men's track team headed south to begin the outdoor season, running in the 49ers Classic at UNC-Charlotte. The Eagles got off to a great start bringing home one first place finish, one third place, as well as three additions to the All-Time Top-10 list. Freshman Sean Duffy came away with a victory in the 1,500-meters for American. Duffy won the event in 3:47.98, second fastest all-time. He is only 2.98 seconds away from the NCAA Provisional Qualifying standard. Carlos Hunt also ran in the 1,500, finishing in 3:58.31 which is less than one second off of his personal best. The 3,000-meters was another successful event for the Eagles, with American taking third, fifth and seventh. Sean O'Brien was the first Eagle finisher, running 8:31.56. Freshman Patrick MacAdie was fifth in 8:35.11 and sophomore Frank Malpigli was seventh in 8:37.46. MacAdie and Malpigli moved to fifth and sixth respectively on the all-time list. In other events, Chad Young ran an outdoor personal best by almost a minute in the 5,000-meters, running 15:37.23. In the 400-meters, Andy Ellerhorst finished in 49.58, Ed Topolewski ran 50.21 and Michael Edwards ran 54.08. The Eagles return to action next weekend at the VCU Rams Invitational. The meet begins Friday at 5:30 p.m.
