Carlstrom Captures 1500m at UMBC Invitational
Wharton sets school record in 400m

Keria Carlstrom won the 1500m by over five seconds at the UMBC Invitational.

BALTIMORE, Md. — In the first meet of the outdoor track and field season, Keira Carlstrom won the 1500-meters while Zaia Wharton set a new American University women's school record in the 400m at the UMBC "Big Dawg" Invitational this weekend. The Eagles had seven new additions to the all-time top-10 in the meet.

Carlstrom ran away from the field in the 1500m, winning by over five seconds in 4:38.45. Her time is the second-fastest ever at AU. Whitney McNees finished 16th in the event in 5:12.20 while Katie Lavender ran 5:30.27.

In the 400m, Wharton broke the school record by nearly two seconds, running in 1:01.91 to finish 10th. Katie Bassler and Catie Poppe moved to sixth and seventh all-time respectively, running 1:07.59 and 1:08.03

Emily Price and Poppe broke onto the all-time charts in the 200m. Price ran 28.36 to move to fourth while Poppe ran 29.65 to earn the sixth spot. Bassler ran 30.88 in the event. Leah Heinecke-Krumhus ran a personal-best time in the 800m, finishing fourth in 2:24.89. Her time is the fourth-fastest mark at AU.

The Eagles' season continues on April 5 as AU competes in the Maryland Invitational.
