Men's Track Finishes Third at Maryland Invitational
Eagles win four events; Duffy qualifies for NCAA Regionals

Pat MacAdie won the 5000m by 25 seconds at the Maryland Invitational.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Four first-place finishes, two second places and one third helped the American University men's track and field team to a third-place finish at the Maryland Invitational. The Eagles were only 15 points behind the host Terrapins. Howard won the meet.

Pat MacAdie ran away with the 5000m, running 14:52.03 to win by 25 seconds. His time is the fifth-best ever at AU. Matt Barresi finished third in 15:23.08 and Phil Turner was 11th in 16:28.17.

Sean O'Brien won the 800m, running 1:53.09 to edge teammate Sean Duffy (1:53.37). Duffy was running the 800m after winning the 1500m earlier in the day in 3:48.54. His time in the 1500m qualfies him for the NCAA Regional Championships. Phil Gaeta was the runner-up in the 1500m, running 3:51.42 to move to third all-time. Pat Burford was sixth, running 4:03.25, placing him 10th all-time at AU.

Carlos Hunt claimed the 3000m steeplechase, running 9:30.24 to beat the field by 43 seconds. Andy Ellerhorst ran in the 200m and 400m dashes, placing sixth in the 400m (49.28) and ninth in the 200m (22.37). Ed Topolewski placed eighth in the 800m (2:00.07) while finishing 12th in the 400m, running 50.82. Chris Buerger (51.05) and Greg Vogt (53.07) also ran in the 400m.

The 4x400m relay team of Buerger, Gaeta, O'Brien and Vogt finished eighth in the meet, running 3:28.47, the ninth-fastest time ever at AU.

AU's season continues next weekend at the Bucknell Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
