AU Women's Track Sets Two School Records at Maryland Invitational
Wharton establishes 800m mark, 4x400m relay sets record

Zaia Wharton set the school record in the 800m at the Maryland Invitational.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. Zaia Wharton set her second American University women's track and field school record while Keira Carlstrom won the 1500-meters as AU finished eighth at the Maryland Invitational. Wharton set a new mark in the 800m and the 4x400m relay squad also set a new school record.

Wharton added another school record to her resume, running 2:18.24 to finish as the second collegiate runner in the 800m. Leah Heinecke-Krumhus just missed her personal-best time, running 2:24.97 to finish 11th. Megan Simpson (2:27.79) and Christina Huang (2:32.62) also competed in the 800m for AU.

Carlstrom captured the 1500m in a time of 4:32.54, just missing the ECAC Championships qualfiying time and NCAA Regional mark. However, Carlstrom did improve her personal-best time by six seconds. Samia Akbar was third overall and the second collegiate finisher, running 4:39.98. Katie Lavender improved to 5:27.45 while Ashley Futrell ran 5:33.55.

Jessica Daniel placed eighth in the 5000m, running 19:27.50. In the 200m, Emily Price improved on her personal-best time by running 28.28. Catie Poppe also improved her best time with a mark of 28.64 to move to fifth all-time at AU. Katie Bassler is now sixth all-time after running 29.94. The AU 4x400m relay squad of Carlstrom, Wharton, Heinecke-Krumhus and Price finished fifth in a school-record time of 4:07.22.

AU's season continues next weekend at the Bucknell Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
