WASHINGTON -- Taking advantage of poor hitting by Lehigh, the American University volleyball team dispelled any notion of an upset Saturday night, defeating the second-place Mountain Hawks 3-0 in Patriot League match at Bender Arena. Scores of the individual matches were 30-18, 30-26 and 30-25.
It marked the 15th straight victory for the Eagles, who carry a 23-6 overall record and a perfect 13-0 showing in the Patriot League. Since its introduction in 2001, AU has amassed an impressive 29-0 record in league action and will host Navy on Friday night in its final regular season match before the Patriot League Tournament on Nov. 22-23. The Eagles have already sewn up the Patriot League regular season crown and will be the top seed in the tournament.
Junior Karla Kucerkova was the main offensive force for American, piling up a match-high 19 kills with 10 digs. She hit .400 for the match while the team hit .328 compared with Lehigh's .250 hitting percentage result.
Also playing well was freshman Cutrina Biddulph, who hit .400 with eight kills and a pair of service aces. Senior Judit Szekelyhidi was strong with 13 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Courtney Mulford produced a match-high 44 assists for American.
For Lehigh, Rochell Healea had a team-high 17 kills and Lisa Furusawa added 33 assists.
