Mulford, Biddulph Sweep PL Weekly Honors
American volleyball prepares for start of Patriot League play

Biddulph earned her second PL Rookie of the Week honor. Mulford has been a key cog for the AU offense.

WASHINGTON — Sophomore setter Courtney Mulford (San Diego, Calif./La Costa Canyon) and freshman middle blocker Cutrina Biddulph (Reseda, Calif./Granada Hills) of the American University volleyball team were named Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the week ending of Sept. 22.

Mulford earned her second All-Tournament nod this season at the American Volleyball Classic as she totaled 56 assists in a 3-0 win over Yale on Friday and a 3-0 loss to No. 3 Florida on Sunday. Against the Bulldogs she had 36 assists, eight kills and 10 digs. Earlier in the week, the six-footer dished out 26 assists and had six kills in a 3-0 win over Morgan State.

Mulford recently set a career high of 59 assists in a 3-2 win over Duke. She leads the Patriot League in assists with 451 in 40 games for an average of 11.27 games. The setter is third in the league in service aces with 20.

For Biddulph, its the second time the 6-4 middle blocker has earned the honor. In three matches she had 21 kills, four aces, four digs and 10 blocks. She also hit .250 against the No. 3 Gators, starting her 14th match in the process. She leads the league in hitting percentage (.366) and is second in service aces with 27 in 45 games.

The Eagles host Holy Cross on Friday night at 7 p.m. in their first Patriot League match.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its inaugural year of membership in the Patriot League.
