October 31, 2003 | Stats WASHINGTON- Led by junior Natacha Cornaz (Lausanne, Switzerland/Gymnase August Piccard) with seven service aces, the AU Eagles were able to sweep the Holy Cross Crusaders 3-0 (30-12, 30-24, 30-8). Sophomore Cutrina Biddulph (Reseda, Calif/Granada Falls) also stood out for the Eagles, posting 10 kills, and four service aces, while senior Karla Kucerkova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/Brno) had 13 kills to keep her within reach of the AU record for career kills. The Eagles started out the night strong against the Crusaders in the first game, taking an early lead and never looking back. Kucerkova posted five kills, while Biddulph put up four. Going into game two, AU was able to take another early lead, only to let the Crusaders come back with junior Diane Marzelli serving for five points in a row. Although Holy Cross was able to come within one point of the lead, the Eagles never let them take it, and AU took the game 30-14. As the match progressed into game three, Cornaz was able to serve for eight points, including three of her seven service aces in a row. The Eagles were able to fly past the Crusaders 30-8, cementing their win, and pushing their Patriot League winning streak to 38. With four more Patriot League matches to go until the tournament, the Eagles are leading the league in first place with a 14-8 overall record and a 10-0 league record.
