to Face No. 25 Maryland in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament
Dec. 5, 2003 | Game Notes WASHINGTON – The American University volleyball team will take on No. 25 Maryland in the first round of the NCAA tournament tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland’s Comcast Center. The Eagles earned an automatic berth into the tournament after clinching its third straight Patriot League title following a 3-0 victory over Bucknell on Nov. 23. This will be American’s fifth NCAA appearance in school history. In the last meeting with Maryland in 1998, the Eagles fell 3-0 and extended the record against them to 0-6. If the Eagles defeat the Terps, they will next face the winner of the George Mason/Colorado State game that is being played today at 5:30 p.m. Against George Mason,
the Eagles have defeated the Patriots in the last seven meetings, the
last on taking place in 2000. AU has only faced Colorado State once, losing
to the Rams in the first round of the 2001 NCAA tournament.
