Eagles Volleyball Defeats Tournament Host
American Posts 3-1 Win at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- After notching a 3-0 win in its first game at the Hampton Inn/Holiday Inn Wildcat Classic on Friday at Davidson, the American volleyball team handed the hosting Wildcats a 3-1 loss (30-28, 27-30, 30-13, 30-13) on Saturday.

The Eagles (2-0) took advantage of a 71-36 kill margin and a .367 attack percentage to Davidson's .122 mark to walk away with the victory.

Sophomore outside hitter Karla Kucerkova (Olomovc, Czech Republic/Brno) led the AU attack for the second straight match with 24 kills. Setter Sabrina Vasconcelos (Fortalezza, Brazil/Colegio Christus) accounted for 52 assists and six of the team's 11 service aces.

The Eagles' lone remaining All-League selection from last season, junior Judit Szekelyhidi (Ujszentivan, Hungary/Szegedian Club), led the team's defensive effort with 15 digs.

Davidson (1-1) relied on the arm of Jacqueline Ortega on offense as she picked up 10 kills.

American wraps up play at the two-day tournament on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against Miami (Fla.).
