American Routs Army for Second Straight League Win
Eagles Perfect Through Two Patriot League Matches

WEST POINT, NY -- American continued its torrid start to the season by defeating Army, 3-0, on Saturday night here in Cristl Arena. It was American's second straight Patriot League win, after defeating Holy Cross, 3-0, on Friday.

The Eagles were clinging to a 21-19 advantage in the first game, before pulling away for a 30-20 victory. The second game played out along the same line as the first with Army playing American close until the game's latter stages. After downing the Black Knights 30-22 to take a two-game lead, American was priming for a three-game sweep over its overmatched opponent.

In the third game, American once again displayed its supremacy over the Black Knights. Army only got as close as 20-13 before the Eagles pulled away for a 30-18 victory that secured Army's fate in the match.

"Army has a very good team," noted American head coach Barry Goldberg. "I thought that our team played really well. I'm certainly glad to get out of West Point with a victory. The match was much closer than the score indicated."

Though the Black Knights were outstanding in their effort, they struggled to stop American's high-octane attack. American produced a .412 hitting percentage, led by Karla Kucerkova who sparked the Eagle offense with 16 kills in 25 total attempts. Sabrina Vasconcelos set up Kucerkova a majority of the time en route to 38 assists. Kucerkova also led the Eagles on the defensive side of the ball with 14 digs.

With the win, American University upped its season ledger to 7-2 and improved to 2-0 in its first year in the conference.
